BMCDA- VOICE Youth Empowerment through horticulture

Bukolooto Mosque and Community Development Association (BMCDA) with support from VOICE is implementing a one-year youth empowerment project amongst the Baruuli and Banyala in the two sub-counties of Kitimbwa and Kayunga in Kayunga district.  The Baruuli–Banyala youths within these two sub-counties are living an isolated and miserable life. They are a minority group with no permanent ownership of land yet have very limited access to resources that can help them develop through self-help projects. This status positions them as squatters and vagabonds with no rights and less hope to develop into equal members of society. Therefore, bringing them together amplifies their voice and capacity to have access to rights and unutilized resources such as land within the communities, mostly owned by the indigenous elders. We hope that by the end of this project, the rightsholders shall have the capacity, skills, and positive attitude to independently engage in self-help sustainable income-generating activities not limited to Chili, French beans, or Beetroot but also other crops that need the same or similar skills.
